Rep. Mike Rulli (R-Ohio) criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s plan to open five government-backed grocery stores, warning the taxpayer-funded initiative could drive small businesses out of business and fail within a year.
According to an interview published by Fox News on Wednesday, Rulli, whose family owns the Ohio-based Rulli Brothers grocery chain, said government-run stores would struggle to compete sustainably because of the industry’s thin profit margins.
