Google has acknowledged a glitch in its search results that led to different outcomes for queries related to voting for Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. When users searched for 'where can I vote for Harris,' they were presented with a window to locate a polling station. However, when the query was changed to 'where can I vote for Trump,' only news articles were displayed without a map.
The issue gained attention after Elon Musk shared a post on X, which garnered over 4.5 million views. In response, Google's official X account explained that the discrepancy was due to the 'where to vote' panel triggering for specific searches. This was because 'Harris' is also the name of a county in Texas, similar to the issue with the name 'Vance.'
Google assured users that they were actively working on resolving the glitch. The company emphasized that the irregularity in search results was not a common way for people to look for voting locations. Despite the confusion caused by the glitch, Google is committed to ensuring accurate and reliable search results for its users.
