An urgent warning has been issued to Google Chrome users as hackers are using various apps to steal passwords.
A number of apps to change the colour and theme of web pages have been revealed to be extensions used by unscrupulous characters to nick personal information online. These extensions have been downloaded millions of times by unsuspecting web surfers.
Nati Tal, an expert from Guardio Security, who exposed the "Dormant Colors" campaign, said there were at least 30 variants of this extension part of a campaign for both Chrome and Edge, the Irish Sun reports. The fake extension takes over your search page so whenever you search for anything using Chrome it re-directs you to a fake Google search page.

Then hackers make money from any purchases you make as an affiliate. Tal added that the fraudsters also collect login information including passwords and any personal details.
He said: "At the end of the day, it’s not only affiliation fees being collected on your back, this is your privacy as well as your internet experience being compromised here, in ways that can target organizations by harvesting credentials and hijacking accounts and financial data."
