A new report claims Google's Pixel 11 series and the Apple iPhone 18 Pro models will feature Samsung Display's newest M16 OLED screens. The new Pixel phones would be the first ones in the wild to feature the new display panel.
Korean publication ETNews reports that the M16 panel will be in the Pixel 11 series, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models, and the foldable iPhone (whenever it launches). The new display should provide upgrades in brightness, color vibrancy, and power efficiency, per ETNews.
Currently, the Galaxy S26 series and last year's Pixel 10 Pro feature Samsung's M14 OLED panels. The M14 was first adopted by the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, with the iPhone 17 series also featuring the OLED panel.
There aren't more details on how much of an improvement the M16 will be over the M14, though ETNews says the 16 indicates the use of "high-performance materials."
Potential release dates
If accurate, the Pixel 11 series will be the first to ship with the new tech. In the last couple of years, Google pushed up the release of its flagship phones into August, just ahead of the iPhone launch in September.
Surprisingly, Samsung's major divisions (Display and Mobile) appear to lag behind in supplying each other with parts since the M16 isn't expected to debut on a Samsung phone until the Galaxy S27 next year.
An unnamed industry insider implied that the M16 OLED panel will also be used for new versions of the MacBook Pro and iPad mini that are also expected to launch in the second half of 2026.
Meanwhile, Samsung is expected to launch its Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Flip 8 and the rumored Galaxy Z Fold Wide foldable phones in July, but those won't feature the newer panel.
