Good news of the week: Beyonce makes music history and heroic dogs celebrated

There’s more good news for London’s revellers this week, with news of a new techno festival coming to town, as well as a long-term home for a beloved nightclub

Music fans can rejoice in the news that Beyonce has made music history, while Usher is set to come to London. 

Additionally, four heroic dogs have been shortlisted for an award, and there’s new hope for people living with alopecia.

Beyonce becomes first black woman to top country charts

Beyonce has become the first black woman to top the Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, as her song Texas Hold ‘Em debuted at number one.

The Drunk in Love singer is now the first woman to reach number one on both the Hot Country Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs since the lists began in 1958.

Usher announces European tour

Usher is going on a European tour this summer, playing gigs in London, Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin.

It will be the first time the R&B star, who recently played the Super Bowl halftime show, has played in Europe since 2015.

Crufts announce Hero Dog finalists

Crufts has revealed the four dogs that have been shortlisted for The Kennel Club Hero Dog Award.

Phoebe, Echo, Vesper, and Gordon have all been recognised for how they have helped their humans in extraordinary ways.

New techno festival coming to east London

High Lights festival is planned for Barking Park (High Lights)

A new techno festival called High Lights is coming to east London’s Barking Park this summer.

Around 8,000 ravers a day will head to the park between May 31 and June 2 to see DJ sets from the likes of Carl Cox, Enzo Siragusa and Max Cooper.

London club The Cause has secured a long-term home

London club The Cause, originally based in Tottenham, has found a long-term home in an old Guinness and Tetley factory in the Docklands.

The upcoming 2024 season features everything from Dutch Hardcore to appearances from electronic darling HAAi. 

Alopecia treatment approved for NHS use

An alopecia treatment has been approved for NHS use, potentially benefiting 14,000 people who live with the autoimmune condition which causes hair to fall out.

The new drug is called ritlecitinib and is made by Pfizer. People with severe alopecia areata can now be prescribed the daily tablet to improve hair regrowth.
