Good news for employees: Input Tax Credit on group health and life insurance allowed; Know how it help employees

Insurance ITC the GST Council

On October 8, 2026, after its 57th meeting, the GST Council shared good news for employees with employer-provided health and insurance. The GST council approved input tax credit (ITC) for health and life insurance policies taken for employees by their employers.

According to a press release, the GST council has recommended to rationalise blocked ITC by an amendment in Section 17(5) of the CGST Act, 2017.
