Good Morning Britain viewers were not impressed with host Richard Madeley, who they suggested was sympathetic towards porn watching MP Neil Parish.
Member of parliament for Tiverton and Honiton Neil resigned after two female colleagues caught him watching porn twice in the Commons during a meeting.
Neil claimed he was watching the adult content mistakenly after he'd searched online for tractors for his family farm.
As Richard hosted GMB with Kate Garraway he asked: "All jokes aside do we see it as a watershed moment in this country and the way people behave in the Commons? Do you feel sorry for him?"
He explained: "I don’t know about you but I was sort of inclined to take that at face value because there is no suggestion that he had a track record for doing this.
"It’s not like he was always looking furtively at his phone in the Commons.
"It seems to have been his first and second offence. I think for a politician, if you saw the whole interview, it was quite a mea culpa."
Viewers felt Richard was trying to justify Neil's actions and were unimpressed. One said: “ #GMB Madeley kicks off the week with "do you feel sorry for him?
Another added: "#GMB Richard Madeley making a good start to the week Neil Parish ‘no suggestion he had a track record’ of looking at porn Because Parish always tells Madeley and @GMB when he is about to log on to a porn site.”
Neil, 65, a dad-of-two, had said of his 'error': “I’ll have to live with this for the rest of my life. I made a terrible mistake and I’m here to tell the world.
“The situation was, funnily enough, it was tractors I was looking at, so I did get into another website with sort of a very similar name and I watched it for a bit, which I shouldn’t have done.
“ My crime, my biggest crime is that on another occasion I went in a second time and that was deliberate. That was sitting waiting to vote.”
