Liverpool's culture chief has explained why it is the "perfect" city to host Eurovision.
Claire McColgan appeared on today's edition of Good Morning Britain after it was confirmed the song contest would be held in the UK next year. The BBC insisted that next year's contest will still have "glorious Ukraine at its heart" and the director of Culture Liverpool said this means Liverpool is the ideal setting.
She said: "We're an UNESCO city of music and the compassion that Liverpool people have means we could fill every part of this city with brilliant music and loads of community work like we do with all our big events.

"Liverpool did the events research programme where we opened the first nightclub and first festival during covid. Liverpool has an infrastructure where we could put an event on in a really short time, but the event is really impactful as well.
"We can shut the whole city down so, even though the show itself would be at an arena, we've got all these iconic spaces that are known across the world that we can dress as Ukraine.
"We could do some really, really beautiful things that I don't think any other city could do."
Liverpool is one of nine UK cities that has launched a bid to host next year's contests. Today's edition of the ITV news programme was hosted by Ed Balls and Charlotte Hawkins.
The broadcasters were also joined by Ukrainian Eurovision host, Timur Miroshnychenko. The presenter was impressed by Liverpool's bid as he admitted all UK cities could host next year's event.
He added: "I completely agree that next year's Eurovision will be very special. It is very important to stay united and show in these dark times we can celebrate through music and love."
