Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley under fire for 'condescending' question to Scarlett Moffatt

Richard Madeley came under fire from Good Morning Britain viewers for a 'condescending' question he asked Scarlett Moffatt as she appeared on the show on Wednesday.

Former I'm A Celebrity and Gogglebox star joined ITV hosts Kate Garraway and Richard Madeley from her County Durham home to talk about a new TV show that will see her embark on a religious and spiritual journey by going on a 15 day pilgrimage. And, after being quizzed on that, the topic of discussion turned to the fact that Scarlett was all set to sit her 14th theory test just hours later, after Kate teased she had a 'big challenge,' ahead of her.

Looking rather shocked about her track record of failures, Richard said: "You failed your driving test 13 times and today you go for your 14th theoretical test. Why do you keep failing? Thirteen is a heck of a lot of failures!"

Scarlett replied: "Yeah, it is isn't it? I don't know, if I knew that I'd probably pass Richard." The gauntlet was then thrown down to Scarlett, 31, on just how ready she was to sit another theory when she was tasked with identifying what a number of road signs meant.

After they flashed up on screen, Scarlett managed to identify all of them, including signs for side winds and level crossings. But, some GMB viewers at home were still thinking about Richard's earlier question, with one taking to Twitter to write: "ooh Richard madeley not everyone can pass their driving tests with ease, what’s Scarlett doing wrong! Wow could be a nerves , anything, how patronising you are."

A second reacted: "Does Richard Madeley enjoy being rude and condescending to people? Poor Scarlett Moffat!!"

Scarlett was recently announced as the host of a new BBC show which will aim to help learner drivers pass with flying colours.

Commenting on the role, Scarlett said: "Scarlett said: “I’m over the moon to be part of such an exciting series on BBC One. Having failed my driving test 13 times I know exactly how these learners feel and how much strain it puts on the person teaching you - no one will get in a car with me anymore! I hope that my new show will give us all the confidence to finally rip up those L plates and hit the road.”
