Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley slams Prince Harry for missing Prince Philip's memorial

Richard Madeley has slammed Prince Harry for missing his grandfather Prince Philip's memorial.

The Good Morning Britain host criticised the Duke of Sussex for skipping his grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh's, public memorial service, which will take place later today at Westminster Abbey.

It's unknown at this point if the Queen will attend due to her recent poor health, but is reportedly "determined" to make the service to bid farewell to her husband.

Discussing the memorial on the ITV breakfast show, Richard slammed Harry's "ridiculous" reasoning for missing the event reports The Mirror.

"Harry and Meghan will not be there because they have concerns about security," Susanna Reid said.

Guest Andrew Pierce then added: "Which is ridiculous, because he will be in the bosom of the royal family today and there will be security people everywhere. He would be completely looked after."

Susanna asked if Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle think "they are more of a target", as she added: "Because presumably that's what they argue - is that they feel more at risk if there are other members of the Royal Family there, including Head of State."

The Mirror's Kevin Maguire then replied to insist it is the safest place they could be.

"If they feel it, they feel it but come on, it's going to be the most secure part of London.

"I was there last night, they've put up the crash barriers.

"If you're looking for a police officer today, just go around Westminster Abbey, you'll find ranks of them," he added.

Richard then chimed in: "I couldn't agree more with you. What is he playing at?"

Prince Harry hasn't been in the UK since July 2021, when he attended an event to unveil the statue of his late mother Princess Diana alongside his brother Prince William.

Meanwhile, the Queen is 'hopeful' about making the memorial service for her late beloved husband, as she has been suffering from mobility issues in recent months.

It is believed she is having a variation of "good days and less good days".

The event will start at 11.30am today at Westminster Abbey. Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will all be attending as well as other members of the Royal Family including Prince Andrew.
