A Canberra Bilbys Triathlon Club jersey has been fixed to a light pole along Gungahlin Drive where a cyclist died in a serious crash this week.
The club jersey was among several heartfelt tributes, including floral bouquets, left for the 32-year-old woman.
"A beautiful Bilby gone too soon. Loved and missed always. Ride on sister," a note at the site said.
Another card read "Forever in our hearts" next to a colourful bike fixture.
The Bilbys club said it was devastated by the incident involving their regular cycling group that resulted in the death of one member and injuries to others.
"Our club is made up of people who love the sport of triathlon, who love getting out there and doing their best, and who support each other through the highs and lows that come with competing in a challenging sport and belonging to a community club. Today, and in the coming weeks and months, that support will be more important than ever," the club wrote in a social media post on Thursday, August 27.
The post also said the tragic incident was a reminder of the vulnerability of cyclists and pedestrians compared to motor vehicles, and asked all road users to be patient and "remember that all of us just want to get home safely".
The crash on Gungahlin Drive was reported to emergency services about 6.20am on Thursday, August 27.
Detective Inspector Mark Steel, in charge of ACT Road Policing, said first responders were confronted by a scene "beyond comprehension".
He said a light-blue Hyundai Accent had "ploughed" into a group of five cyclists travelling in the same direction, between Wells Station Road and Kosciuszko Avenue.
The 32-year-old woman from Perth could not be revived and died at the scene, and a 39-year-old man was taken to hospital in a critical condition, Detective Inspector Steel said.
A 34-year-old man who was also injured in the crash was released from hospital after medical treatment.
"There's a family grieving over there in Western Australia at the moment, and friends here in the ACT ... everyone would be hurting, " the detective inspector said.
He thanked members of the public, including off-duty nurses and an off-duty police officer, who stopped at the scene of the crash on Thursday to provide first aid before paramedics arrived.
A 40-year-old woman who was driving the blue Hyundai Accent is said to be assisting police during their investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
Police have appealed for witnesses and those with dash-cam footage of the cyclists and the car with registration plates YND94Q to contact Crime Stoppers ACT quoting reference number 8482533.
