Gear: Golf Pride CPX grips
Price: $9.49 (Undersized and Standard), $9.99 (Midsize) and $10.49 (Jumbo)
Who It’s For: Golfers who want a softer feeling, more-cushioned grip that still provides traction.
The Skinny: The new CPX is the softest performance grip Golf Pride has ever made, and with a new raised traction pattern, it provides excellent traction too.
The Deep Dive: Golf Pride makes some of the most popular grips used by elite players, including the Tour Velvet and the New Decade Multicompound (MCC), and they each deliver what better players tend to want in a grip, which is a firm feel and high traction. On any given week, it’s not surprising to see eight or nine of the top 10 players on a PGA Tour leaderboard using either of those grips, or Golf Pride’s Z grip.
The company’s latest offering, however, is different. The CPX grip is designed to feel soft and cushioned instead of firm.
The letters CPX stand for comfort performance extreme, and this grip can help to absorb vibrations created at impact for recreational players and pros alike. Made using very soft rubber, the CPX delivers its cushioned feel with traction thanks to a new pattern that has been strategically designed into several areas. Raised diamond-shaped pieces, which Golf Pride refers to as the EXO Diamond-Quilted pattern, protrude upward in the CPX, creating scores or places where your hands make contact with the grip. This makes it easier for your gloved hand and your non-gloved hand, to maintain a hold of the grip without increasing pressure, which can inhibit your flexibility and performance.
The new CPX grip is available in four sizes ranging from undersized for people with hands that measure between 5″ and 6.5″ in length from the tip of the middle finger to the crease in the wrist to standard size (6.6″ – 7.5″), midsize (7.6″ – 9″), and jumbo grips (> 9″).
