Of the captain’s picks made by Zach Johnson for the 2023 U.S. Ryder Cup team that’s set to play Team Europe in September in Italy, Justin Thomas is perhaps the most curious one.
On one hand: We’re talking about JT, who has a 16-5-3 record at the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup. We know that when it’s a head-to-head international competition, he’s going to step the heck up.
On the other: We’re talking about a Thomas who didn’t make it to the weekend in five of his last eight tournaments. He missed the cut at the Masters, the PGA and the British Open and finished T65 at the PGA. To say that his form is awful heading into the event next month is an understatement.
And that has golf fans reacting, which you can check out below Johnson’s quote that speaks volumes about the selection:

I'm not a fan of Patrick Reed AT ALL, but even I know that he had better golf season than Justin Thomas.
Not sure why Thomas was chosen for the US Ryder Cup team. Thomas didn't even qualify for the playoffs.

In picking Ryder Cup team, why you choose a guy who had his worst year ever, missed cut at 3 of 4 majors and tied for 65th in the fourth, had 3 top-10s all year and didn't make playoffs — why you choose him is not immediately obvious.
