A 19-year-old man has undergone brain surgery after sustaining critical head injuries on Saturday night, after falling to the ground in an alleged attack on the Gold Coast.
Police allege the teenager was walking with friends through the Justin Lane car park in Burleigh Heads, just after 8pm, when a 28-year-old man approached the group.
It's alleged an argument then broke out, and that the 28-year-old man then punched the teenager twice in the face, in quick succession.
The first punch allegedly knocked off the teen's glasses, while the second punch allegedly sent him falling backwards, causing him to hit his head on the ground.
Police say he was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital, unconscious, with critical head injuries.
The 28-year-old Burleigh Heads local accused of the attack did not know the victim.
He allegedly fled from the scene, but was found by police patrolling nearby.
He was arrested and charged with one count of grievous bodily harm and one count of drunk or disorderly conduct on premises.
He has been denied police bail and is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
