Man arrested after Gold Coast siege sparks resident evacuations

Police have arrested a man following a 15-hour siege on the Gold Coast.

The situation ended peacefully after police negotiated with the man, who was holed up inside a unit on the Gold Coast.

Police sources said the man claimed to have a gas bottle and had threatened to ignite it.

All residents from the unit complex were evacuated overnight.

Officers were called to a housing complex on Brown Street in Labrador at 4:30pm on Tuesday, after reports of a domestic incident.

When the siege could not be brought to a swift end and the man claimed to have a gas bottle, an emergency declaration was declared under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA).

Motorists had been advised to stay away from the exclusion zone and avoid the area.

More to come.
