Gogglebox to air on Channel 4 amidst scheduling changes

The death of Queen Elizabeth II has caused shockwaves across the UK and the rest of the world. Many TV channels have dramatically their schedules with many shows not airing or moving channels.

The new series of Gogglebox, where viewers watch other people watch and react to telly, was due to begin on Friday, September 9. Channel 4 has confirmed the new series will still be aired on Friday after the Queen's death. You can read everything you need to know about the new series of Gogglebox here.

In a statement Channel 4 said: Channel 4 has made significant changes to our schedule, including added extended news coverage, to ensure that Channel 4 is respectful following the news from Buckingham Palace about the death of Her Majesty The Queen."

"Channel 4 exists to offer viewers an alternative and that is particularly important at times like this. Gogglebox is a much loved national institution and it will air as planned tonight bringing a valuable sense of continuity for many of our viewers.”

Channel 4 also confirmed that filming for the new series took place on Thursday, September 8, the day the Queen died. This may mean that the families on Gogglebox will react to the death of the Queen.

Many tributes have been made to the Queen thanking her for her 70 years of service. This includes Welsh stars Sir Tom Jones, Dame Shirley Bassey, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Gogglebox shot to fame and is a favourite TV series for many viewers. Channel 4 has confirmed that "all the regular" families will be returning to the show and have not confirmed if there will be any new families. The regular families include well-loved Welsh couple Shirley and Dave who are from Caerphilly.

Other popular families include siblings Sophie and Pete in Blackpool, the Malones, and best friends Jenny and Lee. Gogglebox will begin on Channel 4 at 9pm on Friday, September 9.
