Gogglebox stars land huge new job after fans were left devastated they quit show

Former Gogglebox armchair critics George and Joe Baggs have clinched a huge new job in the media over Christmas after quitting the Channel 4 show earlier this year.

George, 20, and Joe, 25, are set to join Radio 1's first-ever TikTok takeover on Christmas Day and will be on the BBC airwaves from 3:30pm.

The pair are set to give "fans the opportunity to hear their favourite TikTok stars in a completely different light", according to the broadcaster.

The station says the upcoming line-up over the festive season will "soundtrack the Christmas celebrations" across the UK on Christmas Day as part of their initiative to search for fresh talent to helm their radio shows.

The BBC has turned to social media to scout ten personalities on TikTok from the worlds of comedy, entertainment and music, who will be available to hear over the airwaves from 2pm until 6pm.

On TikTok Joe boasts an impressive 1.4 million followers on the app under the handle @joebxggs and has racked up over 87 million likes on his posts.

Both Joe and George's TikToks mainly consist of family-related content, usually, pranks, dancing or miming videos.

This is a part of BBC Radio 1's wider plan to give 29 new DJs and presenters a chance to fill in as the main roster of names take their break over the festive season.

The exciting announcement for the brothers comes after the Baggs family quit their sofa gig at the Channel 4 show earlier this year.

The Baggs family – matriarch Lisa, husband Terry, and sons Joe and George – joined the hit programme back in 2020 and filmed three series before announcing they had quit.

The family from Essex decided to end their run as TV critics due to work commitments and issued a joint statement teasing future projects to announce their departure from the hit show.

The statement read: “After 3 incredible seasons on Channel 4’s Gogglebox we have taken the decision to leave the show. We have loved every second of being part of the Gogglebox family and it’s truly been the opportunity of a lifetime.

"With lots of exciting opportunities approaching for us all, we just couldn’t commit to filming another series, but are so grateful for the opportunity."

Following their shock announcement, Gogglebox co-star Ellie Warner was one of the star's to wish the family luck with their new ventures.

"All the best to you guys," the Leeds lass told her then-soon-to-be former co-stars.
