Gogglebox stars in tears as they react to announcement of Queen's death

The cast of Gogglebox broke down in tears during Friday night's episode as they witnessed the announcement of Queen Elizabeth II's death.

The much-loved Channel 4 show aired at it's usual time of 9pm and the various couples and families were filmed as they watched the news about the monarch passing.

Despite obviously having found out about her death before filming, the stars of the series were still overcome with emotion as it played out in front of their eyes again.

Mary was seen being reassured by her partner Giles as the National Anthem played, and Jenny was also in tears as she sat and watched on as BBC newsreader Huw Edwards broadcast the news.

"She was so busy looking after us," Jenny said to her pal Lee as she cried.

"Charles has to behave himself," she added as she discussed Charles becoming King.

Various other members of the cast reminisced about old pictures of the Queen, while Mary commented that they "don't have a female role model anymore".

Gogglebox fans were also feeling emotional whilst watching it and took to Twitter to comment.

"Sobbing at the Queen passing #Gogglebox," one person said, while another tweeted: "When the families we know and love on #Gogglebox hear the news about The Queen it’s so touching to see them reach out and hold each other’s hands."

A third viewer said: "Watching others watch the announcement of the death of the Queen got me right in the feels!" and a fourth added: "I’m literally crying about the Queen just watching #Gogglebox."

Someone else posted: "The #Gogglebox-ers reaction to the Queen's death has me crying! Her death itself was a bit 'goodness' but no more than that. But the Goggleboxers have me all emosh!"
