One of the most loved and enduring stars of the TV show Gogglebox, Jenny Newby, is in hospital, her best friend Lee has confirmed.
Fans of the Channel Four programme began to voice concern when Jenny and Lee were conspicuous by their absence on Friday night's episode of the popular fly-on-the-wall show, now in its 19th series. Lee then appeared at the Bafta TV awards on Sunday night without his best friend and co-star.
Speaking to the Daily Star on the red carpet, Lee said Jenny "isn't very well" and needed an operation. "She is not very well, she is having an operation, a mini one, but she is recovering well though," he said. "She was invited but the appointment was in Bafta week. You can't turn down an NHS operation down can you? But she is doing well."
Gogglebox took home the prize for best Reality and Constructed Factual show at Sunday night's Bafta TV awards at the Royal Albert Hall, the programme's second Bafta. Lee took to the stage to give a speech before a member of the production team took to the microphone to criticise Government plans to sell off publicly-owned but advertising-funded Channel Four.
Fans of Jenny and Lee expressed concern when the pair, who film together in a Holderness caravan 10 miles east of Hull, were not featured in Friday's show. Twitter user @onthewayhome asked: "Why are jenny and lee not on Gogglebox tonight."
Nat_KitKat said: "Where are Jenny and Lee?" and Susan Seddon said: "Tonight's #Gogglebox not the same without Lee and Jenny." User @softlymill agreed and said: "This show isn’t the same without jenny and lee! where are they tonight?"
