Gogglebox viewers will know him best for his hilarious remarks about the week’s TV highlights - but they may not know that star of the Channel 4 show Giles Wood has a job away from the screen.
Giles, who appears on Gogglebox alongside his wife Mary Killen from their cottage in Wiltshire, has a hidden talent that has stunned fans. His personal website reveals that the star is a skilled painter, with his prints selling for £250, the Liverpool Echo reports .
As an artist Giles specialises in painting interiors, and enjoys depicting “the clutter of peoples’ lives”. Explaining what draws him to painting, Giles writes: “I like the contemplative aspect — sitting for several days in a room, watching the light change.
“There are as many changes as with a landscape. I always work in oils as they give more depth. The finished painting should offer an insight into the painter as well as the subject.”
Aside from his work as an artist, Giles “retired at 21” according to Mary on a previous episode of the show. The pair were watching a documentary on Covid-19 when Giles said: “Just as I'm starting to enjoy my retirement.”
Mary answered: “What retirement? You haven't worked first. You retired at 21, so now you can start working – do it in reverse.”
The couple, who have been married for over 30 years, are a talented pair. Mary is an etiquette expert, has authored several books and writes a column for The Spectator.
