Gogglebox star brands Leeds men 'weird' after run-in with 'chat up Gorilla'

A Gogglebox star has branded Leeds men "weird" after an unusual encounter in the city.

Kate Bottley, became the nation's favourite vicar after starring on the popular Channel Four show. The Sheffield resident left the show in 2016 to focus on her family.

Kate was reached out to by Channel 4 following a wedding flashmob video that went viral in 2012. She stars on the show alongside her husband who notoriously acts as Kate's silent footstool while she provides the running commentary.

Her light-hearted sense of humour is often compared to the Vicar of Dibley, which is part of the reason she went on the show. Kate and her husband Graham are thought to have left Gogglebox to take part in other projects, including Celebrity Masterchef.

However, she previously announced that it was a temporary measure while her daughter revised for GCSEs, tweeting: "Hi, our daughter has her GCSES so we needed a break from the cameras."

And aside from her gig on BBC Radio 2, she has also been spending time in Leeds. The regular on BBC Songs of Praise was recently walking through Leeds when she was propositioned by a man wearing an unusual costume.

Sharing her experience on Twitter, Kate said: "A man wandering Leeds in an inflatable gorilla suit physically accosting women for their phone numbers. Sisterhood and depleting oestrogen prompted me to confront him and give him what for.

"It solicited name calling from him and gratitude from the women. Chaps, don’t be weird."

The tweet raked in thousands of likes and many comments. @BLGBTQ said: "@revkatebottley Leeds can be a bit extra at times, not as extra as Manchester but still. Have a word with him to stop, he probably will."

While @GuidingSara said: "@revkatebottley If you are suffering with depleted oestrogen and he’s still standing, based on my personal very recent experiences, I would say you handled yourself remarkably well!"

And @ZoeSomebody added: "@revkatebottley And I was just saying how fab the Leeds area is. Fortunately I've not encountered this guy."
