Gogglebox is known for taking the pulse of the nation on such events as the Jubilee and the Queen's funeral. And this week (Friday), on the occasion of the Coronation of King Charles III, it was no different.
But while Mary got teary over the Coronation, her partner Giles was not able to empathise with her. In fact, he delivered a few home truths about the state of the Royal family.
Watching the coverage, Mary said: "It's sad for Charles in a way because obviously this is a celebration of his coronation but the one person who has always been there for all these public events... The Queen..."
She tailed off, but despite Mary's obvious emotion, Giles blurted out: "His mother can't be there, she's died, Mary."
"I know," said Mary, with a tragic look on her face.
Giles didn't sense the tone and stop, adding: "We've all moved on."
"We have not moved on," says Mary, taking exception to her partner's cavalier attitude. "Most people... I haven't"
Giles reiterated his position, saying: "We have moved on. The Common people have moved on, Mary."
Not everyone agreed with Giles on social media. Many Gogglebox fans found themselves tearing up watching the stars watch the Coronation.
M. Polyglotte En Entraînement @M_Polyglotte took to Twitter to say: "I just want to say, I'm with you, Mary. Not all 'common people' have moved on. #gogglebox"
elizabeth scott @suzysasha agreed, adding: "#Gogglebox Mary's right we all haven't moved on. Can't get used to the fact our Queen is gone.
"Coronation was wonderful but sad too. I kept singing God Save our Queen and missed her on the balcony."
But Giles had plenty of tweeters on his side. LukeHayesII @LukeHayesII1 said: "Normal people have moved on, Nutty #Gogglebox"
Tweeter Chantal @ChantalMascoe added: "#Gogglebox She's died Mary [laughing emoji]"
bloodyexhausted @bloodyexhausted added their own laughing emoji and tweeted: "We've all moved on #gogglebox"
