Gogglebox episode prompts dozens of Ofcom complaints after 'vile' comment

A recent episode of Gogglebox has been littered with complaints after remarks from one of its stars made during a segment on the Coronation. Earlier this month, King Charles was officially crowned alongside his wife, Queen Camilla, at Westminster Abbey.

Last Friday, days after the event took place, fans tuned in to watch the latest episode of the popular Channel 4 show. It is the first time the King and Queen's crowning featured due to the Coronation taking place on a Saturday the previous weekend.

And while the likes of Jenny Newby and Lee Riley and husband and wife duo Ronnie and Annie appeared prepared for the occasion with their own props and royal attire, not everyone felt patriotic, as Glasgow couple Roisin Kelly and Joe Kyle caused a stir among viewers, reports Manchester Evening News.

Joe appeared to mock the celebration as he sang a chant about the King after the Prince of Wales pledged his allegiance to his father before those in the Abbey and those watching were invited to do the same.

And as the scenes played out. it wasn’t long before fans watching the episode flocked to Twitter to complain, with some calling the remark “vile”.

It has now been revealed that 88 viewers issued a formal complaint to Ofcom about the episode. The Manchester Evening News has contacted the broadcasting watchdog for more information.

Roisin and Joe are two of the newest faces to join the Channel 4 show’s line-up. The Scottish couple first appeared on screens in Gogglebox in February last year. They appear together, dishing their opinions out on the latest TV shows and breaking news stories, from Joe’s family home in Glasgow, where they live together.
