God of War Kratos actor Christopher Judge appears to have let slip that a new game starring him is set to be revealed later this year, and based on his language, it certainly sounds like it'll be the next installment in Sony Santa Monica's series.
As highlighted on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, Judge – who plays Kratos in the 2018 God of War game as well as its sequel Ragnarok – was approached by Twitch streamer Fuzhpuzy at Fan Expo Vancouver earlier this week, who had a few questions to ask about the upcoming Greek trilogy remake.
She first asks him if he's "going to be playing in the remake," to which he responds, "No, well, it's going to be TC [Carson, original Kratos actor]." This was basically confirmed in the remake's announcement, as Carson voiced the character in those three games (as well as Ascension and the adult, narrator Kratos in new Metroidvania game Sons of Sparta) and was the one tasked with delivering the reveal.
Judge continues, saying the Trilogy remake is "not a reboot," but suggests it will feature "new technology" and "more stuff," including a "new fighting system." Given that the "project is still very early in development," this might be the most we hear about it for some time.
But what about Judge's next in-game appearance? "Then you'll be hearing about what we're doing probably late summer," he adds. What that'll look like is a different matter entirely, but given the shape of the conversation, it certainly implies that he's hinting at a Sony Santa Monica follow-up to God of War Ragnarok.
I can't imagine Sony will be thrilled that Judge seemingly spilled the beans on these things, but it's worth noting that he might not have been aware he had an entire audience of Twitch viewers listening in in the first place. Before heading over to meet him, Fuzhpuzy is told she can't take photos or film the interaction without paying, or let Judge say hi to her chat, so she has a member of staff hold onto her phone at a distance instead. However, since she has a clip-on microphone to pick up her own audio, Judge's voice comes through loud and clear, too.
It feels reminiscent of the time that Assassin's Creed: Black Flag actor Matt Ryan hinted to a fan that they "might have to beat" the game "again," and that "there's a reason I say that," but at a later date backtracked while noting that "I didn't know that they actually were recording me on their phone." Judge hasn't made any further comments online since these ones have gone viral, so perhaps he's choosing to remain quiet for now.
