GMB's Susanna Reid felt 'powerless' and suffered nightmares during pandemic

Susanna Reid has spoken of how she felt 'powerless' during the coronavirus pandemic, as it led to her suffering from nightmares.

Appearing on ITV's Loose Women as part of International Women's Day, the Good Morning Britain host spoke about how she struggled to report on certain stories during difficult times for the nation.

She said that she was trying to save people's lives with her reporting but was ultimately unable to do so.

The 51-year-old told the Loose Women panellists: "I don't think I'm more affected because I'm a mum. What I've noticed is that I'm more affected by some stories than other stories... if there's a story about the lost of a child, I find that very hard to deal with.

"I find the main thing that helps me is that if I switch off at the end of the day [by reading] a novel or fiction book."

She added: "During the pandemic, I had nightmares where I was trying to save people's lives and I was unable to do anything... we all felt powerless."

The GMB presenter went on to speak about being part of ITV Daytime's image, which saw 27 female presenters come together for a photoshoot.

She said: "It is a sisterhood. I’m really lucky to work with some incredible women on Good Morning Britain - Ranvir Singh, Charlotte Hawkins and the amazing Kate Garraway, who I think is one of the inspirational women that a lot of people have looked to."

She added: "We’ve all navigated our way through the pandemic, but nobody with such a tricky homelife as Kate with poor Derek, with the way he is affected.

"She is absolutely incredible - how she’s carried on coming to work and being a great mum and a great partner to her amazing husband."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV Hub
