Laura Tobin has been blasted by Good Morning Britain viewers after delivering a "doom and gloom" warning on Monday as she explained temperatures would continue to rise following a warm weekend.
The metrologist told ITV viewers: "Scientists have been monitoring all sea temperatures and the thing that is really concerning that was alerted this weekend was that the North Atlantic is seeing temperatures way above average."
"This is the highest sea temperature we have ever recorded in the North Atlantic and the North Atlantic is where our weather systems happen and develop," she continued. "We are likely to see more power for our storms...we're also seeing an influx of jelly fish around our shores so more heat in the ocean, means more heat in the atmosphere, means more storms for us so this not welcome news."
Good Morning Britain viewers weren't impressed with Laura's warning and took to Twitter to complain.
Many viewers questioned why Laura's report focussed on sea temperatures and warnings when the hot weather was simply a part of "summer".
One viewer simply tweeted: "It means summer is approaching and nothing more," as another sarcastically replied: "No, Laura says it means the end of the world is approaching....every summer!"
"No one’s scared enough.. bring out the sea temperatures!" A third shared while another added: "Why don’t we get this from other forecasters? We just want to know a few days weather not this c**p from, I’m sorry, but one of the biggest hypocrites on telly."
Someone else wrote: "Can we just get the weather forecast and not constant Nostradamus /Hilary Jones predictions of impending doom!!!!"
"Do u remember the days where the weather presenter just told u the weather & spared us the lecture? Those were the days!" Another remarked. (sic)
Saturday became the hottest day of the year so far with temperatures hitting 30.4°C in Northolt, west London, and Wisley, Surrey.
This is the earliest date in the year the UK has hit 30°C for a decade.
Meanwhile the Met Office has extended a weather warning for thunderstorms into Monday across large parts of Wales.
