Adil Ray fumed at a Tory MP live on Good Morning Britain today over the lack of support amid the cost of living crisis.
The presenter was joined by Kate Garraway as they interviewed Conservative MP Will Quince, who currently holds the position as School Standards Minister, about today's GCSE results. The government have predicted results will be on a downwards trend today than previous years after the last two years saw teachers give the students their grades.
In a fiery chat on the ITV breakfast show today, Adil fumed at the Conservative government for not doing more to help people amid the cost of living crisis. He insisted the measures that had been put in place weren't "enough".
"There's that £37million package of support, much of which has not yet kicked in," Mr Quince tried to assure viewers but Adil was having none of it and fumed: "That's not enough, that's not enough."
He retaliated: "Well you say that, Adil, but it's not yet kicked in. The first cost of living payment of £300 has been made, the first £150 council tax rebate has been made, but the £400 to every household..."
Adil then interrupted and said: "We know the price rise could rise up to £5000 and could be hideous and we know that's not enough."
"Adil, I agree with you that families are facing huge pressures and they're really worried about things, particularly around energy bills. That's why that package is in place. Every household will receive £400; the most vulnerable households will receive over £1200 but if you're asking," Mr Quince began to say as Adil continued to add: "It's still not enough."
Mr Quince fumed: "If you let me finish," before adding, "If you're asking me will the new government and new Prime Minister step up and put a new additional package of support in place to help families up and down the country, of course they will."
It's not the first time Adil has clashed with MPs on the show, and he recently lost it with work and pension secretary Thérèse Coffey on Friday's show as they discussed rising energy bills.
"Anything that's gonna be put through the welfare system will need new legislation which we have delivered in the past and will be need to done again," she said as Adil jumped in and said: "Thérèse Coffey, there will be some people watching this now thinking you're just not treating this seriously..." She butted in and told him: "I'm treating it very seriously Adil, I don't know what you're saying."
Adil fired back: "I don't think you are! People's bills could rise up to £5,000, millions of people are already in debt, piling up debts, these people don't have any skin the game here, but you're talking about growth, the economy, people want answers now. Isn't it a fact that you guys are playing party politics with this?"
