GMB in awkward clash as Susanna Reid cuts in to tell off guest for 'rude' behaviour

Good Morning Britain turned heated as Alastair Campbell and Baroness Sayeeda Warsi appeared on the ITV programme ahead of their new Channel 4 reality show.

The former Labour spin doctor and Conservative member of the House of Lords sat down with hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls to discuss Make Me Prime Minister, which lifts the lid on what it really takes to be PM.

However, given their guests’ political pedigree, the questioning soon turned to the current turmoil in government and the Labour party conference, as Susanna asked the Baroness for her verdict on Keir Starmer.

Turning to Campbell, Baroness Warsi said: “One of the things we argue about both on screen and off screen is, he keeps telling me how bad my party is, how many mistakes they’re making.

“Of course they’re making mistakes – the fact that we had to get rid of Boris Johnson meant that a huge amount of mistakes were made. But I keep saying this to him and to the Labour party: you’re still not winning.

"You just interrupted someone who hadn’t finished and then said, ‘Let me finish’." (ITV)

“So clearly whatever you’re saying is not cutting through. The vision of Britain you’re presenting, people aren’t buying. Ultimately, you can’t just sit back and wait for –”

Campbell then cut in, saying: “Part of the reason –” before Susanna herself interjected telling him to “Hang on.”

He came back quickly, saying: “Wait, let me just finish,” at which point Susanna looked floored by the interruption.

He then continued: “The point I was going to make,” before Susanna again cut in (ITV)

She replied: “No, you just interrupted someone who hadn’t finished and then said, ‘Let me finish’. Why don’t we allow Baroness Warsi to finish?”

Campbell then replied: “Why don’t we allow you, Susanna, to make this about the Labour party when we came to talk about the TV programme?”

He then continued: “The point I was going to make,” before Susanna again cut in, saying: “You literally just spoke over the person sitting next to you who hadn’t even finished.”

The questioning soon turned to the Labour party conference (ITV)

Campbell then relinquished the point, turning to the Baroness and saying: “Go on then. Do you think I spoke over you?”

She replied: “Actually, to be fair, we have this banter consistently,” telling him to make his original point after all.

Susanna then refused to let Campbell off, saying: “I don’t think you should concede your point, Baroness.”

She replied: “He’s in a party that hasn’t won for over a decade. Off you go,” to which Susanna said: “Oh, you feel sorry for him.”
