General Motors will invest more than $2 billion into its Ingersoll and Oshawa plants in Canada through the fourth quarter of 2022. Among other things, the money will go towards building the Silverado 1500 at the Oshawa factory during a newly added third shift of production at the site. The location already assembles the Silverado HD, making it the only GM site building light- and heavy-duty variants of the truck.
The Oshawa factory closed from late 2019 to November 2021, according to Automotive News. It re-opened to build the heavy-duty Silverado. With this investment to create a third shift, the plant will have new 2,600 jobs at the site.
