GLP-1 Users Reported Nail Detachment Four Times as Often as Nonusers in an Early International Dermatology Survey

People taking GLP-1 drugs, a class that includes semaglutide and tirzepatide, reported nails lifting away from the nail bed far more often than similar patients who had never used the medications, according to an international survey presented at the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Congress 2026 in Vienna. About 39% of GLP-1 users described nail detachment, compared with 9% of nonusers, a gap of more than four times.

The findings, released on Oct. 1, add nails to a growing list of hair and scalp changes patients have described online and in clinics. The survey included people in France, the United States, Brazil and Mexico, all living with type 2 diabetes, obesity or both.
