Patients with bleeding blood vessel malformations in the gut who took GLP-1 drugs had 73% fewer hospitalizations for gastrointestinal bleeding than similar patients on standard medicines, according to research presented at the American College of Gastroenterology's 2026 annual meeting in Nashville.
The finding could interest older adults with angiodysplasia, a condition that can cause repeated bleeding, anemia, and the need for blood transfusions. GLP-1 drugs, widely used for diabetes and weight loss, are not approved to treat it.
