Global icons in focus in new collection

Artwork by Rudy Meyer.

Portraits of global icons and revolutionaries are showcased during “Game Changers”, which is running at RCB Photographers’ Gallery 2, 2nd floor of River City Bangkok, Charoen Krung 24, until April 23.

The collection is unveiled by Rudy Meyer, a French neo-pop artist who portrays icons such as Mao Zedong, Nelson Mandela, Frida Kahlo, Marilyn Monroe, Bruce Lee, Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan and Elon Musk through acrylics, ink, spray paint, and multiple layers of hand-pulled silk screen printing to deliver impactful imagery.

Inspired by rebellious visionaries, world icons, and risk-takers from different cultures and backgrounds, the self-taught artist who has travelled to 122 countries in the past 15 years makes this series of portraits to reflect how perpetual travel and inspiration from “game changers” are fundamentals to his work and self.

He delves deep into the concept of pop culture through an interplay of unique mediums. His process of destruction and reshaping conveys a darker vision of popular art, transforming it into visual poetry. Images of these figures are duplicated and layered in each portrait to represent the myriad layers of each individual’s personality. Every figure represents the unconventionality and courage the artist has found inspiring in his art and life.

Rudy’s distinctive style is liberated from rules and conventions. Since 2019, he has focused solely on his artistic practice. His artworks are now exhibited in galleries in Asia and Europe.
