Global cleantech investment fell in first half on slowing China momentum

Global investment in clean technologies fell 17% to $770 billion in the first half of 2026, as a slowdown in China outweighed growth in some other markets, a new report from research firm Rhodium Group on Thursday found.

"Geographically, the decline was driven by China, the world's largest cleantech investor, where a shift to market-based pricing put pressure on new renewable power investments," said report ‌author Hannah Pitt, a director in Rhodium's energy and climate practice. Much of the year-on-year decline reflected frontloading in the first half of 2025 ahead of the policy transition.
