Glastonbury 2023 lineup: 'ChurnUps' given top slot and fans think they know who it is

Fans are speculating about the real identity of an unknown band set to play at a top slot at Glastonbury 2023. The festival released its full line-up at set times on Tuesday (May 30) including new announcements like Queens of the Stone Age and Rick Astley.

There are still a few secret acts to be announced on the Park stage and Woodsies, which will continue to fuel rumours until the festival kicks off at the end of June. But there has been one band that has caused quite a stir since the announcement, as music fans have never heard of them.

The ChurnUps have no digital presence but have been given a top slot on the Pyramid Stage on Friday, June 23. The band is set to play in between Texas and Royal Blood from 6.15pm until 7.30pm.

Many fans have been sharing their theories of the real identity of the mystery act. The most common hypothesis from a Reddit thread dedicated to the topic is that it could be Pulp, a possible synonym to 'churn up'. The band fronted by Jarvis Cocker has not played Worthy Farm since their secret set at the Park stage in 2011.

Pulp is currently embarking on a UK reunion tour and has a gap in their schedule around the time of Glastonbury, which this year is from June 21 to 25. Many Glastonbury fans remarked that the set was longer than it usually is in that slot at an hour and 15 minutes.

Other fan theories include The Foo Fighters, many of whom say its frontman Dave Grohl was once in a band called Churn. The US rock band often use pseudonyms for secret sets or smaller shows, including The Holy Sh*ts! and The FF'ers as well as once playing with a tribute band in Brighton. Blur and The 1975 were also both discussed as possibilities.

It's unlikely to be revealed until the moment the band walk on stage on Friday, June 23. The festival is no stranger to secret sets with top acts from last year including Jack White and George Ezra.

Sir Paul McCartney delighted the crowd in 2022 in his epic headline slot by bringing on surprise guests Dave Grohl and Bruce Springsteen at the end of the set.
