Glasgow weather as Met Office confirms UK to be battered by monster rain storm

The Met Office has confirmed that the UK will be hit by a 'huge rain storm', which is set to last 24 hours.

We are still in winter and whilst summer is a while away yet, the days are getting ever so slightly brighter.

But the slightly higher temperatures could soon stop. It comes as forecaster previously warned that "changeable weather conditions are likely to bring rainfall, heavy at times, to the north and west". The forecasters, according to the Mirror, have confirmed the country will begin to see some of the worst rain this week with some if it having fallen over the last few days.

And today, the 'monster rain storm' will batter the UK, potentially dropping up to 100mm of water in some areas.

How Glasgow will be affected by the 'monster rain storm'

Regions in the north of the UK are set to see the wettest conditions, with heavy rain affecting areas in North West Scotland and the far north and west the worst.

The city will see a downpour for the rest of the week with the Met Office forecasting heavy rain for much of today (February 2) with the heaviest of it happening tonight.

The expected rainfall has the potential to cause serious flooding, with flood alerts issued in 19 areas across the country. At present however, there is no weather warning in place for Glasgow.

The warning comes after people living in Glasgow and the surrounding areas were awoken by the "brightest and loudest" thunder and lightning they had ever heard, which resulted in a heavy down pour of hail in some areas as well power cuts. lasting half an hour.

Met Office meteorologist Dan Stroud said: “Occasional rain tomorrow (Wednesday, February 1) will become more widespread across northern Britain, perhaps with 5-15mm (falling) quite widely.

“However some hills and mountains may see 25-50mm.

“A further pulse of rain is expected Thursday (February 2), again this mainly affecting North West Scotland, perhaps giving an additional 100mm by the end of the day on Thursday over hills and mountains."

He added: “Beyond that high pressure is set to becoming more dominate, with high pressure over the UK or eventually to the east.

“However the wettest conditions are always reserved for the far north and west as we move into the first week of February.”
