Glasgow wealthy areas targeted as climate activists let down 70 SUV tyres

Around 70 SUVs have had their tyres deflated in the southside of Glasgow last night, according to reports.

A group of climate activists, who call themselves 'The Deflationists', are said to be have been behind the attacks, which took place in the Shawlands and Newlands areas of the city.

The incidents were confirmed by The Tyre Extinguishers, a group who have been targeting large SUVs in Edinburgh over the past few months as part of their aim of to defend themselves 'against climate change, air pollution and unsafe drivers'.

As we reported over the weekend, the group issued a call to climate activists in Glasgow to band together to deflate SUV tyres in the city.

The Tyre Extinguishers took to Twitter to confirm news of the Glasgow incidents, and claimed that the attacks have kicked off a 'Scottish rivarly' between climate activists here and in Edinburgh.

They tweeted: "Scottish rivalry kicks off as Edinburgh and Glasgow compete to deflate SUVs. A new group, 'The Deflationists', disarmed 70 SUVs in Glasgow's Shawlands / Newlands area last night, while in Edinburgh, 10 SUVs in Merchiston were disarmed.

"Rest of UK, Scotland is showing you up."

Glasgow Live has contacted Police Scotland for comment.
