Glasgow to feature on Come Dine With Me: The Professionals next week

A host of restaurants across Glasgow will take part in a new season of Come Dine With Me: The Professionals next week to win a grand cash prize.

Six restaurants will battle it out across two episodes of the Channel 4 show in order to be crowned the best restaurant in the city - and Tuesday is when the first instalment will drop. On Tuesday night's episode, it's a family affair as each restaurant has a parent and child pairing.

First up are Saffron By Paradise, where mother and son Mozhgan and Mehrab are pitting their Persian cooking against their fellow pros. John and his daughter Rosie from Red Onion are impressed by the Iranian flavours, while Elizabeth and her son Steven, from Calabash, are surprised by a sticky sweet starter.

There are plenty of embarrassing stories in store, as well as some of John's tales of life on the rock 'n' roll road. On day two, Steven and Elizabeth will be aiming to give their guests an authentic African experience at Calabash. While John and Rosie are blown away by a massive main, despite super sides Mozhgan and Mehrab are let down by the lamb.

The night is topped off with some after-dinner dancing that really puts the 'bash' into Calabash. The competition culminates at Red Onion, where John and Rosie are confident that their cooking will lead them to this week's cash.

It's Elizabeth's first experience of a scallop, and John cops some criticism about his duck over the main. There are stories of sauces, spills and sackings, and a retold rockstar request that leaves its mark on the memories of Mozhgan and Mehrab.

Saffron By Paradise, Red Onion and Calabash will score each other points, but only one can come out on top - who do you think it will be? Friday is when the next Glasgow episode will air.

On Friday July 22, the competition kicks off at music venue-cum-restaurant Bloc, where head chef Andy and front of house Pixie serve up a feast of street food. Our hosts go all out to impress husband-and-wife team Luca and Magda of Italian restaurant Amore d'Italia, and Teddy and Michael of sushi and noodle soup chain Maki and Ramen.

Twerking and live music keep the night lively, and the vegan starter goes well, but the main and dessert are a bit too much for some. On day two, Italian Luca and Polish Magda pull out all the stops, serving a Sicilian menu with a Scottish twist. A warm Italian welcome charms the guests, despite Luca oversharing his stomach issues.

The food is largely a success, but a disagreement over how pasta should be cooked rattles the hosts. The guests leave happy, however, having learned techniques in Italian charm, and having been spoiled with a surprise take-home from Magda.

Finally, it's Teddy and Michael's turn to impress. Will their confident, competitive nature prove justified? At the table, feedback for the starter is mixed, particularly from the vegetarians in the group, while the mains lead to a cacophony of slurping sounds.

Famous Glaswegian haunt Bloc, Amore d'Italia and Maki and Ramen will be feeling tense as they find out the winner of the show, who will scoop £1,000 with the most points. Who would you choose to snap up the money?

The first episode of Come Dine With Me: The Professionals in Glasgow will air on Tuesday, July 19 at 5pm on Channel 4. The second instalment will air later on in the week on Friday, July 22 at 5pm on the same channel.
