Newlands Park community tennis centre is hosting its first open day this weekend to encourage locals to try out the activities on offer at the club.
This Saturday, June 17, the community led organisation which has benefited from the People Make Glasgow Communities (PMGC) scheme will offer up the chance to try coach led cardio tennis, mini tennis, drop in and play as well as pickleball.
The event will take place at the Newlands Park Community Tennis Centre (NPCTC) between 12pm and 4pm and will show off the four outdoor all weather courts, which are also wheelchair accessible.

The NPCTC is a not-for-profit community interest company, run completely by volunteers.
They plan to work with local organisations and schools to ensure everyone can gain access to their new facility. This will include organising tennis and coaching for individuals and groups with additional support needs and mental health.
The club is just one of almost 600 community organisations which has expressed an interest in taking control over council-owned venues.
Since the launch of the PMGC programme two years ago, there have been 585 “expressions of interest” submitted to the council and as it stands, 14 organisations have successfully progressed into the development phase of the project.
Eight of these are now successfully operating venues, including Newlands tennis courts, with the remaining six working with council officers on funding applications and legal agreements.
