Glasgow shoe repair shop closes doors for final time after 70 years

A Glasgow shoe repair shop, which has been around for seven decades, has closed its doors for the final time.

William Lang Shoe Repairs has been serving the residents of Shawlands for the last 70 years, but they served their last customer yesterday.

Michael Lang took over the business from his father and has been fixing shoes for 50 years. However, the cobbler has decided to retire.

SNP MP Stewart McDonald posted on Facebook: "Today is the final day of trading for Wm Lang Shoe Repairs after over 70 years of operation.

"Michael Lang, who took over his father’s business, has been repairing shoes for over 50 years and has now taken the decision to retire.

"Although this is a huge loss for the Shawlands community, I would like to wish Michael and his family all the best for the future."

The comment section was full of well wishers, with many stating that long-running family business will be missed.

One wrote : "Deserves a break after all that time. Hope it is a long and happy retirement."

Another said: "He's been a cornerstone of the Shawlands trading community."
