TV chef Jimmy Lee is set to expand his Cantonese street food business, with a third permanent Salt & Chilli Scottish outlet in the south side.
The new spot will offer up a taste of Hong Kong’s street food - combining east and west, old and new, and salt and chilli. The original Salt and Chilli Oriental opened up in the west end, and proved to be a massive hit.
Jimmy then opened a second Scottish outlet in Edinburgh’s St James Quarter, before launching a pop-up in Hamilton. In the last few months, the Glasgow-based chef has blown up on TikTok boasting over ten million views on his 60-second Cantonese cooking videos.

For the new Southside spot, work is currently underway to renovate the McFly’s Chicken site. With both takeaway and sit-in options, the Kilmarnock Road outlet will have a capacity for up to 60 guests.
Set to open on November 13, Salt and Chilli Oriental will be offering up Peking ribs, chicken satay, bao buns, katsu curries, their signature salt and chilli dishes and much more. It’s hoped that six new jobs will be created in the local area.
Jimmy Lee shared his excitement ahead of the opening. He said: “Shawlands was recently named as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world and I’m delighted that we’re able to expand our portfolio to Glasgow Southside.
“I live in the area so it’s a neigbourhood that my family and I know well - buzzing with activity and a multicultural community at its heart. With the opening of Salt and Chilli Oriental Southside this November, I hope to add something new to the incredible amount of food and entertainment options the area has to offer residents and visitors alike.”
