A RANGERS pub in Glasgow has cut up Ivory Coast flags hanging as part of its World Cup decorations because they look similar to Ireland.
The Bristol Bar, located in Duke Street in the east end of Glasgow, had put up bunting to celebrate the Fifa World Cup, which Scotland are competing in for the first time since 1998.
The bunting featured the Ivory Coast flag, who are taking part for the first time in 12 years.
In a post on social media, the Bristol Bar shared images of the Ivory Coast flag hanging on the bunting, with a giant red cross drawn on top of it.
Other images show the green section of the tricolour flag cut off, so only the orange and white sections remain.
The Ivory Coast flag is orange, white and green stripes, while the Irish flag is green, white and orange.
The post on the Bristol Bar's social media channels reads: "Apologies to Ivory Coast we had to update your flag ……. Just could not keep it whole here @ The Bristol Bar.
"Had to be done, sorry about that!"
The post concluded: "Best of luck to Ivory Coast at the World Cup though".
The bar added the hashtags, "#bristolbar", "#worldcup26" and "#notricoloursinourbar", in reference to the similarities with the Irish flag.
Ireland did not qualify for the World Cup, and last appeared in the competition in 2002.
It comes as Tartan Army fans have been seen soaking in the World Cup festivities across the pond, after Scotland beat Haiti 1-0 in their first World Cup match in 28 years on Saturday night.
Fans were hailed by the official US baseball league and scores of fans after more than 10,000 Scots stole the show at a Red Sox game, where they were seen singing various tunes including "No Scotland, no party".
Video footage also shows the Tartan Army discovering the viral "Boston Cop Slide" during their visit to the city, which has become a popular landmark after a Boston police officer was filmed emerging from it at high speed after a chaotic tumble.
