More than £6000 has been approved to an East End youth group who want to film community events for people who cannot attend because of Covid.
St Paul’s Youth Forum, based at St Paul’s Church in Provanmill is an outreach programme for people aged 0-25 which provides them with a safe environment to learn and interact with other people.
The money, a total of £6227, was approved by East Centre area partnership earlier this week and will allow staff to train a group of 12 young people at Smithycroft Secondary School on how to use broadcast equipment.
This will then give them the skills to volunteer to film events within the community for people who cannot attend in person. Courses are expected to start this April.
The money will be awarded to the organisation once Glasgow City Council sets its budget for the coming financial year.
Heather McMillan, director of community empowerment and equality said: “This is an area report for the new financial year so we are allowed to present time critical applications at this meeting albeit that the council budget won’t be set until February time.
“We are assuming that the budget for the year will remain the same at £114,591 and we have time critical applications in front of you.
“This application is from St Paul’s Youth Forum for their Connecting View programme. They are looking for funding to train young people at Smithycroft Secondary School on broadcast equipment.
“The funding would be for the staff to train up the pupils and the cost of the equipment. The total cost is £6553 and they do have matched funding of £315 from children in need.
“The amount requested is £6627 and it is recommended that we approve this.”
Following the presentation members unanimously agreed to award the funding.
