Glasgow NHS staff praised for 'world class' treatment of boxer placed in coma after Hydro fight

NHS staff in Glasgow have been praised for their incredible treatment of a boxer hospitalised after a fight in Glasgow.

Alejandra Ayala, from Mexico, was placed in an induced coma at Queen Elizabeth Hospital after being injured following a fight in Glasgow on May 13.

The 31-year-old suffered a TKO loss to Scottish boxer and current WBA and IBO champion Hannah Rankin at the OVO Hydro.

She received treatment in the ring by medical staff before being taken to the hospital where she underwent emergency surgery and was placed in a medically induced coma.

Following the two surgeries for a subdural hematoma, she has now been woken up and is said to be 'recovering'.

Opponent Hannah Rankin took to Twitter to thank the public for their prayers and positive thoughts and described the treatment Alejandra had received as 'world class'.

A statement posted by Alejandra's team said: "Everyone at Dennis Hobson Promotions, Kynoch Promotions, Fight Academy and Fightzone is so grateful to the wonderful team at Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

"Our best wishes are with this brave, brave warrior as she begins her journey of recovery, and we will be on hand to support her in any way we can."
