Glasgow Love Island star Dale Mehmet opens barbershop in the East End

Love Island's Glaswegian star Dale Mehmet has returned home and opened his own barbershop in the East End. The 26-year-old model and barber - who has been cutting hair for almost seven years - welcomed customers into Huncho Barbers on Friday, January 20.

Prior to going into the villa back in 2021, Dale had his own studio. A couple of months after he left ITV's hit dating show, he decided to take some time off to 'enjoy' himself.

He had been living in Manchester before deciding to relocate back to Glasgow at the end of last year to pursue his passion.

Dale told Glasgow Live: "When I moved away, I was ready to go enjoy myself and see other things but now I’ve come back. I missed Glasgow, my family especially and everybody is glad to have me back too.

"I always wanted to have a big establishment for myself and have other people working for me. It’s always been at the back of my mind.

"I missed the barber shop vibe where everyone is chatting and enjoying themselves. I am a people person and that’s why I came back and started cutting hair again."

The Smithycroft Road barbershop is open from Tuesday to Saturday and the team of friendly barbers charge between £20 and £25 for a fresh cut.

Walk-ins are allowed but customers can choose to make appointments from Thursday to Saturday should they wish to.

Huncho Barbers is unlike any other barbershop according to its owner Dale, who has his sights set on worldwide domination.

He said: "I’m putting as much energy into the shop as possible, it’s like my baby.

"You don’t just come in, get a haircut and then leave. You can come in and have a coffee, sit and chat with the boys.

"It’s a safe space where people can come and socialise as well as get their haircut. I want to create a good environment.

"When you’re a barber you hear everybody’s stories, it’s a space where you can chat to everybody. It’s like a breath of fresh air.

"In business, you always need growth. I would like to put them elsewhere and expand the brand. I would like to take it abroad as well."

Dale added: "I designed the shop differently to other barbers. People have been coming in to see us and taking pictures of the shop.

"It’s been a great turnout and I am so grateful it’s been as good as it is.

"I highly rate myself as a barber and the vibes in the shop are immaculate and everyone will enjoy themselves."
