Glasgow flight diverted so police could offload 'disruptive passenger'

A Glasgow flight was forced to divert so police could remove a "disruptive" passenger.

Jet2 says flight LS155 - which was bound for Tenerife in Spain - diverted to Shannon Airport in Ireland due to the alleged incident on Wednesday, June 12.

The aircraft departed Glasgow Airport shortly after 3pm and was expected to land on the Spanish island around 8.50pm, however, it was forced to detour to the Irish town at around 5pm.

The travel company revealed the flight diverted to allow cops to "offload a disruptive passenger" who was onboard.

The Garda - who are the Irish police force - has revealed they were called to the airport amid the incident.

Officers say they arrested a man - aged in his 20s - after meeting with the aircraft on its arrival.

He is currently in custody while investigations into the alleged incident are ongoing.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí attached to Shannon Airport arrested a man, aged in his 20s following an incident on board an aircraft that diverted to Shannon Airport earlier this evening Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at approximately 5.30pm.

"Gardaí met the aircraft and arrested the man under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in County Clare.

"Investigations are ongoing."

A Jet2 spokesperson said: "We can confirm that flight LS155 from Glasgow to Tenerife diverted to Shannon Airport on Wednesday afternoon so police could offload a disruptive passenger."
