Glasgow fire crews remain at scene of east end recycling centre inferno over 24 hours later

Fire fighters are still tackling a blaze at a recycling centre near Celtic Park more than 24 hours later.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received reports of an inferno at around 2.35am on Wednesday, February 8. A huge emergency response, which included thirty firefighters, were sent to the recycling centre which was up in flames.

Roads were closed and Police Scotland assisted the fire service at the scene - who are still extinguishing the blaze today (February 9).

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Operations Control mobilised six appliances and specialist resources to the city's Nuneaton Street.

“Work is ongoing to remove waste from the site in order to improve firefighting access. Two appliances currently remain on scene with crews continuing to work to extinguish the fire.

“There are no casualties".

A police spokesperson told Glasgow Live: "Enquiries are continuing".
