A Glasgow soup kitchen has launched its annual appeal for Easter egg donations to be gifted to children and vulnerable families struggling to make ends meet.
The Homeless Project Scotland (HPS) which is based under Central Bridge on Argyle Street and is serving more than 1500 meals a day to almost 300 people, is asking members of the public to give what they can and “spare some pennies” to their service users.
Last year HPS collected around 1500 eggs but chairman Colin McInnes says with the cost of living crisis it is likely more children will go without this year. Mr McInnes is urging those who can afford it to drop off an egg at their base or donate online.

He said: “We have launched our Easter egg appeal to provide Easter eggs to vulnerable families and homeless people.
“Every year we ask the public to donate funds to buy them or they can hand in Easter eggs to our base under the bridge.
“Last year we received around 1500 Easter eggs which were distributed to families who come to the soup kitchen and vulnerable people throughout the city.
“We put out a message on Facebook asking anyone who wants an Easter egg to get in touch which people then did. We then delivered the chocolate to their homes.
“We will probably need even more Easter eggs this year because of the cost of living crisis. People can’t afford to heat their homes let alone buy Easter eggs so if we can give one to a child and give them a wee bit of joy during a tough time that would be good.
“I don’t think a lot of children are getting treats at the moment because of the struggling times. We are seeing a massive rise of children attending the soup kitchen so that tells us people are struggling at home.”
More information on how to get involved in the campaign can be found on the HPS Facebook page.
Donations can be handed into the unit at 194 Argyle Street, 7 days a week from 4.30pm until 11.30pm.
