Glasgow couple needed for job on beautiful Scottish island in 'dramatic and pristine wilderness'

If you and your partner are looking for a change in scenery, you may want to venture to one of Scotland's many stunning islands.

If your ears pricked up to the sound of this, then it could be your sign to get your bags packed with a sporting estate seeking to recruit a couple for full-time position - a role that come with a three-bedroom house.

Amhuinnsuidhe Castle Estate, situated on the Isle of Harris, is looking for both a Head Game Keeper and a Head House Keeper. Located in the "dramatic and pristine wilderness" of the Outer Hebrides, the estate sleeps up to 18 guests and offers "some of the finest sporting in Scotland".

According to the job listing on Rural Recruits, the successful candidate for the Head Game Keeper position will be "self-motivated, honest, and enthusiastic", with "very good communication skills" and the ability to manage a team.

If you are looking to apply, you will want to ensure you have a full UK driving licence as well as a valid firearms certificates - and access to an all-terrain vehicle, reports the Daily Record.

The job description details that duties which will be expected of the promising candidate the likes of:

  • Managing the annual red deer cull
  • Keeping records of all fish catches and cull
  • Vermin control
  • Liaising with guests regarding fishing, stalking, and shooting whist staying on the Estate
  • Hiring seasonal ghillies with help from the Estate Manager and Office Manager
  • Organising seasonal ghillies with guests
  • Organising night watchers’ rotas
  • Complying with the Estates Health and Safety policies
  • General maintenance across the Estate and Amhuinnsuidhe Castle

Discussing the Head Housekeeper position, their role will be to "oversee the daily running of the castle and self-catering cottages". Candidates must possess "very high standards, good communication and organisational skills with the ability to manage a team and liaise with the office, kitchen and report effectively to the Estate Manager".

Duties of the job include:

  • Ensuring the Castle is always clean to a high standard
  • Ensuring all laundry is done
  • Keeping stock of cleaning materials and toiletries and ordering when necessary
  • Hiring of seasonal staff with help from the Estate Manager and Office Manager
  • Producing Staff rotas that keep to the budgets set out for staff hours
  • Liaising with the office regarding bookings
  • Liaising with guests before arrival for any specific needs
  • Greeting guests and showing them to their rooms
  • Helping guests with checking out and paying for any extra’s invoices

The positions come with a three-bedroom house, with utilities included. Other benefits include kennels, a work vehicle, and a "very attractive remunerative package".
