Glasgow councillors knock back award-winning plans for new homes in North Kelvinside

Council planners have knocked back an appeal against the decision to refuse permission to build four mews properties in North Kelvinside.

Park Living (Residential) Ltd had applied to build on the land behind 155 Queen Margaret Drive with their proposals winning an industry award last year.

However, city planners refused to give permission for the four properties to be built on the site.

The original plan involved two mews properties with two bedrooms as well as a one bedroom. It was concluded that the new homes would result in a lack of privacy and sunlight for neighbouring properties.

An appeal submitted to the council outlined: "The scheme will provide a residential development of exceptional quality offering very high standards of living in a highly sustainable location.

“These qualities were recognised by the Dundee Insitute of Architects (Atelier-M Architects based in Dundee) in November 2022 when the proposals were awarded the best ‘On The Drawing Board Award’ at their annual awards ceremony.

“It is regretful and very surprising that the planning department have not viewed them in the same light."

They argued that claims the application site lies next to a lane were "erroneous" adding that the site "should not by any reasonable stretch of the imagination, be considered to accommodate a lane" and that the development won't be "noticable" on the sunlight hours of nearby properties.

They explained: "All of the amenity spaces are of sufficient size to facilitate domestic activities and will have exposure to good levels of sunlight at various times of the year".

Councillors on the local review board decided to uphold the original decision to refuse permission for the development.
