Glasgow communities fund Police Scotland event to reduce antisocial behaviour

More than £200 in funding will be awarded to Police Scotland’s “Pitchin In Programme” which aims to reduce violence and antisocial behaviour.

Officers had asked four different area partnerships, run by Glasgow City Council, for funding of £1500 in total to complement the one-day event held at Toryglen Regional Football Centre on March 31, 2022.

The event, which aims to break down geographical barriers and build relationships with young people in different wards, will follow a 10 week programme taking place within Bannerman, Lochend, St Andrew’s and All Saints schools and bring participants together

An application for £375 was brought before the East Centre area partnership this morning. Members had initially thought that because of a lack of funding in their remaining budget, they would only be able to award £111 to the event.

But following a brief discussion, it was decided that an application for £120 to Greyfriars Pipes and Drums for new uniforms would not be granted in order to award the Police more money.

Instead, members of the partnership will look at the Greyfriars application after the council’s budget is decided as it is not “time sensitive”.

Heather McMillan, of community empowerment and equality, said: “The first application is to compliment the Pitchin In Programme which has previously been funded by the partnership.

“The total cost of the project is £1,500 but it is a multi application across the area partnerships in the East End and the recommendation is to approve £111 and that’s just because we don’t have enough funds to give them the £375 requested.

“Baillieston did approve the £375 yesterday but I don’t know the outcome of the other partnership decisions. There is the option to award more money but it is up to you to decide what is best.”

It was agreed that £231 would be awarded to the Police event.
